About TrackLoupe

TrackLoupe is a set of free tools for GPS files that run in your browser. Your tracks never leave your device.

Why it exists

A GPS track shows where you were and when, and often where you live. Many online tools ask you to upload a track to view or convert it. TrackLoupe does the same work in your browser instead, so the file stays with you.

How it works

When you open a file, the page reads it with JavaScript in a background worker. The tools need no server to do their work, so they keep working with the network off once the page has loaded. The site itself is a set of static pages, without accounts or a database.

An automated test opens a marked file in every tool and every file format, in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit, and fails if any request carries part of the file. It runs again with the network off. The privacy policy describes what the site does handle.

What it offers

Today TrackLoupe opens GPX, KML and KMZ files. Converters between these formats come next. The format pages explain what each file format can store.

Who makes it

TrackLoupe is an independent project made in Portugal. It is free to use and has no ads. If ads ever come, the privacy policy will say so first.

Questions, ideas and reports of files that do not open are welcome at [email protected]. The contact page has more.
